How some paintings can ‘enliven’ your interiors

Instead of the usual modern abstracts or landscapes think outside the square and go for something different. Recent trends have been in two directions.

Use of traditional portraits in a modern home works unexpectedly rather well. It is the lovely combination of the old and the new which makes the whole room come ‘alive’ and makes the room warm and ‘lived in’ rather than a display home.

Here are some wonderful examples.

If this does not tickle your fancy, have you ever thought of a horse painting in your home? Horse paintings were traditionally relegated to the “horsey” types and equestrian buildings but the right type of horse painting can add visual interest and character and will look amazingly chic in a modern interior.

I prefer horses which show movement since they make the interior look fresh and lively.

Here is my take on it – by placing a painting of the horse in a stairwell with no redeeming features, it makes the stairwell come alive and provides a striking visual interest.
