When I was approached to furnish and decorate a holiday home in the Kangaroo Valley (2 .5 hours south of Sydney) I immediately went online to check out the property. And seeing photos of the house and the beautiful surroundings I was immediately captivated.

The house was bought recently by a Captain with Air New Zealand (living in Auckland) who wanted the house to be let out as a self contained holiday rental. The brief was simple – I had carte blanche as long as I stayed within an extremely modest budget.

The furniture had to be robust  and given that freight costs would eat into the budget, wherever possible, furniture was sourced locally. The place was also peppered with Ikea items along with designer finds to stay within the shoe string budget.

So just like the reality shows, I saw the place only twice. The first time to inspect the empty house and take lots of photos and measurements of the rooms. The second time when I went to style the home. Other than that, the entire project was done remotely from Sydney.
